Thanks! On the topic of copyright, my non-lawyerly understanding is that in the US, creative works are covered under copyright regardless of whether they are registered with the copyright office or even have a copyright notice attached. So it was covered as soon as I clicked the shutter.

As far as the copyright watermark on the picture itself goes, that’s there because I’ve found my pictures on other websites without anybody asking permission or even giving attribution, and I think it’s a really crappy thing to do. So I hate scrawling text all over my pictures, but it’s kind of a necessary evil.

Dear Seth: We request permission to use your photo of razor wire (found on Google images) on the cover of a playscript which will have a small print run. The play is by a young Zimbabwean who has fled his country and is currently living in South Africa. He is presenting his one-hander at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival next week.

I have to admit I like the shot, if for no other reason than that the trees look like Huorns to me. I don’t know why, but they do. I think the effect works in the trees and the mountain, but it does seem more noticeable in the sky.
